Getting Started
When you first open CapDiem, a 7-step onboarding walks you through the basics: name, palette, currency, income, fixed bills, savings target, and a quick preview of your daily spending cap. After that, a 10-step overlay tour points out each tab and the key controls inside Settings.
- Today — your daily remaining budget, streak chip, smart context-aware mascot nudges, and recent transactions. Tap the magnifier to search expenses by category.
- Stats — three tabs: Overview (this week + where it went, in vibrant chart colors), Calendar (monthly heat-map), and Reports (line / bar / pie charts).
- Budget — income sources, monthly & annual deductions, savings percentage, daily-mode selector (fixed / rollover / no-limit), and a full month overview card showing "Spent This Cycle" and "Monthly Left".
- Tools — what-if simulators for new expenses, loan payoffs, savings goals, and lending records.
- + (FAB) — tap the center button anytime to log an expense, income, or deduction.
- Avatar — tap the top-right avatar for your profile, theme, streak page, and full settings menu.
Common Questions
Is my data backed up anywhere?
No. CapDiem is offline-first: your data lives only on your device. Use Settings → Export JSON to save a backup file yourself, and Import backup to restore it on the same or a new device. Optional Google Drive backup is available for users who want a cloud copy — it's end-to-end your own folder, you control the keys.
How do I reset everything?
Go to Settings → Clear all data. This erases every expense, income source, deduction, goal, and onboarding state.
How do I enable Face ID / biometric lock?
Settings → Face ID lock (iOS) or Biometric lock (Android). The app will require unlock whenever it returns from the background.
Can I change the color theme?
Yes. Settings → Theme offers eight palettes (Sage, Clay, Seafoam, Butter, Dusk, Coral, Moss, Terracotta). You can also toggle dark mode from the same screen. Categories follow the theme by default, or you can pick a per-category color in Settings → Categories.
How do streaks & coin badges work?
A streak day requires two things: at least one logged expense for that day AND staying at or under your daily budget. Expenses marked as "monthly" (rent, EMI, etc.) don't count toward the streak. As your streak grows, you unlock collectible coin badges:
- Spark — copper coin, 3 days
- Week Strong — bronze coin, 7 days
- Fortnight — silver coin, 14 days
- Steady Month — platinum coin, 30 days
- Two-Month Pro — sapphire coin, 60 days
- Centurion — ruby coin, 100 days
- Year of Cap — gold coin, 365 days
Tap the avatar → Streak to see your current coin, all-time best, and a share button that exports a post (1080×1080) or story (1080×1920) image. Toggle "include name" right above the share buttons if you want your name to appear in the share image.
Which currencies are supported?
58 currencies sorted alphabetically by country. Pick yours in Settings → Currency. Under the hood we store the ISO 4217 code (INR, USD, PKR, etc.), so even currencies that share a symbol — the rupee glyph ₨ used by Nepalese, Pakistani, and Sri Lankan rupees — stay distinct.
How do I log an expense from a bank alert?
Open the app, tap the + button, and use the Paste transaction flow. Copy the alert text from your messages or notifications, paste it in, and CapDiem parses the amount, merchant, and category automatically. We never read your messages in the background — you're always in control of what you share.
How do I customize my avatar?
Settings → Avatar. Choose from 320 illustrated avatars across 16 styles, take a photo with the camera, upload from your photo library (system Photo Picker — no broad media permission needed), or stick with the default initial-on-color circle.
How do I replay the tutorial?
Settings → About → Replay tutorial.
